Distance vs Displacement

Updated: Aug 2, 2023

At t=0, a boy starts to walk toward East and he walks 2m in this direction. Then, he turns toward North and walks 9m in this direction. Then, he walks 10m toward West and then turns toward South and walks another 15m. The whole trip takes 100s.

a) What is the total distance traveled by the boy?

b) What is the net displacement vector of the boy between t=0 and t=100s?

c) What is the magnitude of the net displacement vector?

d) What is the direction of the net displacement vector?

e) What is the average speed of the boy?

f) What is the average velocity of the boy (find its magnitude and direction)?
